The Acute formed in 2017 and has developed a unique style of rock and roll (influences include the Velvet Underground, MBV, Breeders, CAN, and the Fall) while occasionally blending keyboards and OVDs speaking to other styles including underground rap and world music. 2022 marked the release of their debut full length album, Alien Theatre, portraying a fresh, exciting electronic rock perspective by this NYC group, with storytelling and thought provoking lyrical content, and stellar instrumentation. The two piece band features Viveca Butler, formerly singer- songwriter-drummer for Occultation, and Stephen Cacouris, who has perfected his craft in Amherst, MA through various groups. The first single of their sophomore album entitled “RONGORONGO” was released in April 2024 and is a taste of what is yet to come with the album. The Acute invokes rock and roll as a foundation but never a limitation.
